In the Davao region, part of the southern Philippines island of Mindanao, a small group of farmers focusses on quality in cacao cultivation. The resulting Mana cacao has a complex yet balanced profile with cascading flavours. The smallholder farmers and their families benefit from increased and diversified income due to higher prices and continuous technical support by their Filippino partners AURO chocolate company. The farmers promote intercropping, agroforestry and organic farming, which helps to increase biodiversity and protection of remaining forest fragments.
