Cacao was introduced to the island of Hispaniola in the late sixteenth century. When Adriano and Gualberto founded Öko Caribe in April 2006, they had one goal: raising the standard of quality cocoa. With vigor, care and passion they have created a superior quality cocoa that is recognized by many and has raised the international bar.
The cacao grown here is Trinitario – Hispaniola and Criollo. It is cultivated at an altitude of 40m, and is harvested from March to August. The beans are fermented in wooden boxes for 5-6 days, and dried for 10 days on average.
